What I’m Thankful For

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, and amidst the turkey, stuffing, pie, alcohol, football and whatever else, it’s important to remember the real reason we gather to celebrate this holiday…and that is to give thanks.

Each year we use Thanksgiving as a reminder to reflect on all the things in our lives we are thankful for. We shouldn’t need a day set aside for this, but among all the hustle and bustle of the day-to-day grind, it’s easy to forget about everyone and everything that make our lives special.

So with that in mind, here are all the things (fitness and otherwise) that I am thankful for, not just this Thanksgiving, but every day of the year…

My Family

I don’t know where I would be without them. They would do, and have done, everything and anything for me. I know I have it better than most, and I don’t nearly thank them enough. I could never begin to repay them for everything they have given me.

My Health

I have been extremely luck thus far in my life to have made it through unscathed and mostly intact. For many years I put my health on the back burner, thinking that nothing bad could happen to me. I ate and drank what I wanted, didn’t exercise and was likely setting myself up for problems down the road. Three years later, and in a lot better shape, I realize now the importance of taking care of my body, not just for the now, but for future me as well

Seriously, I love deadlifts. If I could do them every day, I would. Deadlifts are arguable the best exercise for total body size, strength and health. If you want a strong back, butt, legs, or pretty much anything, deadlifts are your answer. Plus there are few feelings greater than picking up some heavy-ass weight off the floor.

My Friends

We don’t see each other nearly enough…we don’t stay in contact as much as we should…but I would do anything for them. Some of my best memories involve doing stupid shit with my friends and I wouldn’t trade those for anything

John Romaniello, Mike Vacanti & Adam Bornstein

In the three years since I got into fitness, I have read a lot of stuff by a lot of different people, and all of it has had an influence on me in one way or another. But these three guys stand out because they have all had a direct influence on me and have helped shape my approach to fitness and business.

John was one of the first fit pros I started following. From the first time I read one of his articles, I connected with his approach to health and fitness. In addition, having the opportunity to speak with him one-on-one about business last month was one of the highlights of my year, and the advice that he gave is something I think about every day.

Mike is another fit pro who has helped me a lot this year.  I have a lot of respect for Mike and what he has done. He is always happy to answer an email, and his advice and help has been instrumental as I have started and grown my business over the last few months.

Adam is my current coach and I have really enjoyed working with him over the last six months. His approach to diet and training has taught me a great deal and has helped me mold my own philosophies about fitness and coaching. I know I am probably not always the easiest client, but Adams patience and willingness to listen are two of the reasons I love working with him.

My Job

For many years I thought I was working my dream job. Turns out I wasn’t. I liked it, but I realized I didn’t have a passion for it. I have that passion now. Being able to share my knowledge with people, help them move, feel and look better, is rewarding and makes it so much easier to get out of bed every morning. It’s been a slow start, but its moving in the right direction and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead.

Cause Sunday nights would just be boring otherwise.

Fitocracy

The best online fitness community, hands down. I don’t remember how I can across Fitocracy when I first started, but the support and knowledge of the people in the community have helped me get where I am now. I started as a newbie there posting questions, and now I am the one helping people and answering their questions.

YOU

Seriously, thank you! I value every reader, like, follower, comment, share, retweet, everything! I am beyond humbled that you take time to read my articles and posts. Words cannot express how much I appreciate your support. I will continue to do my very best everyday to make sure I provide you with what you are looking for. Your feedback is important to me, both as I continue to become a better writer, and a better coach.

As always, thanks for reading and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
